My first E30 (the one that broke down in Portland) had two green 5 prongers and I though that was the item. Little fringe bit of knowledge from this, I didn't realize that the orange 4 prong relays are the standard for this model. Hard knocks but thank God I got back on the road - 4 hour delay but oh well. Then I caught a cab to the dealership and bought two relays, as I couldn't recall which was which or what the second one was for. I did have a spare used fuel pump - external - swapped it in to no avail. pump with me and no smart phone (yet - iPhone now). Didn't even have the instructions on how to test the relay v. I had a glimpse of the forehead smack on 'why in the hell didn't I have those parts with me' when I blew a fuel pump relay in Portland a year or so ago. Hell, a new one would be hard enough to come by. Finding a used ECU when you need it out in the hinterlands could be way tough. Unlikely it would happen again, bad ECU that is, but who knows. I would hate like hell to break down in Southern Oregon with a carfull of people and luggage. My recent trip to WA state was another Craigslist rideshare, both ways. Now the plan is to find a 173, get a chip, and take this 153 with me on long road trips as a spare. But as Yoda might say, 'quibble not will I.' I was looking for a 173, for possible ease of chip implant in future but those suckers are hard to find. Swapped in a boneyard 153 and it started right up.
